Biography

WILLYS KEZI TWINGO

I’m Willys Kezi, a visual artist from the Democratic Republic of Congo. From an early age, I was fascinated by colors and shapes, and knew I wanted to devote my life to art.

Over the years, I’ve developed a unique style that highlights femininity in all its forms. I’m convinced that women are powerful, complex beings who deserve to be celebrated in art.

My work often features women’s silhouettes and scenes from daily life that influenced my childhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Through my work, I also question the place of women in Congolese society and in the world at large, as I unfortunately observe that women are often marginalized and treated as second-class citizens. I’m convinced that art can be a means of changing mentalities and promoting equality between the sexes.

I am passionate about the social and cultural universe of the DRC. I’m inspired by the richness of the cultural heritage, but also by the challenges facing the Congolese people. Through my art, I try to give a voice to those who are often ignored or marginalized.

In short, my art is a celebration of femininity and a reflection on the place of women in society. I hope my work can inspire people to see the world in a new light and work towards a more egalitarian and just future for all.

In 2013, I won a prize at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. My work focused on fashion through a parallel between the Incroyables and the Merveilleuses in France, at the end of the Terror, and the sape movement on both sides of the Congo.

I exhibited at Unesco headquarters in 2016, then in 2018 in Andorra.

From November 30, 2019 to January 14, 2020, I present the exhibition “BOZENGA” at Galerie Eric Dupont. An observation of society and, within it, the men and women who live in it.

In 2022 and 2023, I am creating a series of works on paper bags.

In 2023, I’m designing the poster of the Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping.
